The apex of the tongue stands out and makes full contact in the alveolar region; it immediately retracts and allows air to pass through. This closing-opening process is repeated continuously during recording, and it is so fast that images cannot capture it; therefore, a dark spot can be seen in many of them in the area corresponding to the lingual apex.
